 2014 was the 100th anniversary of the begginning of the most brutal war in human history. But in Christmas 1914 soldiers of both sides of the conflict stopped fighting. They stopped the war! The people who were actually doing the fighting STOPPED THE WAR! The spirit of Christmas, which is LOVE, stopped the war. War is madness and LOVE cures madness.

 

Then they started killing again. WHY? Because they were ordered to by madmen who they thought they had the right to condemn soldiers to death. The royal families  and aristocrats and generals started a war which killed millions. Even in the British Army19 year old boys who showed incapacitating fear were executed as an example to the rest of the canon fodder. The people of the earth do not want war. We can stop war.  Let the people of the world live in peace. If the generals and kings want war let them do the fighting.

 

The soldiers on both sides tried to stop again in 1915 and 1916 but their commanding officers ordered them to fire their guns. Their generals hiding in mansions near the battle lines ordered them to keep dying, while they drank wine and slept in comfortable beds.

 The soldiers  tried to avoid casualties by firing artillery at particular targets at set times. The people of the world NEVER want war. It is insane. It is Kings and Generals who want to fight.

Our young men must be brought up to turn their backs on the war machine. The warrior mentallity needs to be channelled into the fight for human dignity for all. An end to starvation and disease. An end to suffering. These are noble things to fight for.

I wrote CUP OF PEACE in 1991 just after the first gulf war. I have never recorded it on an Album. I have had a rough recording of it on this site for some time but here is a recording of CUP OF PEACE I did in 2012. I offer it again as my Christmas Card to everyone.  Here is the link to You TUBE version.

 

Here is another song for the season. It is called 'Let the light of love shine down' It is on my album 'Just about time". I thought I would do a video for the Spirit of Christmas. I wrote the song origninally as an anti dote to the doom and gloom over the world financial crisis. We still have the obscenity of war in many parts of this beautiful world.

Better to focus on the one positive constant in this world, and that is LOVE.
